Survival Rates Lesson

Only 6% survived...what does that mean?
It means that out of the 1,600,000 Jewish children living in Europe before the Second World War only 100,000 survived!
It means so many children died it could be compared to one entire school dying everyday for eight years...
Activity:
Step 1: Figure out what six percent of your class is (in a class of 35 six percent equals about 2)
Step 2: Ask the class to stand up, then have all but 6% (2 in the example above) sit down. Have everyone look around and tell them that if they were Jewish children during the Holocaust only two of them would have lived.
This is a short activity meant to help kids understand the massive numbers that lost their lives.
