Until, after a long, long, time
I'd be well again.
Then I'd like to live
And go back home again
~ from a child's poem, Terezin Ghetto, found in 1945

Sadly, adults were not the only ones who suffered horribly during the Holocaust. Children were also victimized by Hitler's Nazis.
From finding themselves homeless and starving in the ghetto, to being deported on trains of cramped cattle cars, and on to the concentration camps.

Children could not escape Hitler's program. Non-Aryan and Aryan children alike were used to further his goal of creating a perfect German race. Children compelled to go into hiding in fear of their lives, were persecuted in school, were forced to perform slave labor, were tortured, subject to gory medical experiments, and turned into unfeeling killing machines.
As many as 1.5 million children were heinously murdered. These included Jewish, Romani (Gypsy), Polish, Jehovah's Witnesses, disabled German children, and other living in the occupied Soviet Union.
